Your information
Privacy policy
Effective October 12, 2026. This policy describes the OpenVoterGuide website at openvoterguide.org.
Worksheet choices and notes
Your ballot choices and research notes are saved in local storage in the browser on your device. They are not sent to OpenVoterGuide or included in shared page links. They stay in that browser until you delete them or clear its site data. If you download a backup or print/save a PDF, that file contains your selections and notes; protect it as you would other personal information.
Importing a backup merges it with the worksheet already in that browser. The worksheet page is excluded from public search indexing, but it is not password protected: anyone using your device or browser profile may be able to view the saved worksheet. Do not use a shared device if that is a concern.
Address lookup
Typing an address into the search field does not submit it. If you choose “Find districts for this address,” the address is sent directly from your browser to the U.S. Census Bureau Geocoder. OpenVoterGuide does not receive or save the address. The Census Bureau's service is subject to its own policies and practices. The results are used in your browser to show matching districts and links to relevant guide pages.
Hosting and basic requests
This static website is hosted using GitHub Pages. Like other web hosts, GitHub may process technical information needed to deliver and protect the website, under GitHub's privacy statement. OpenVoterGuide does not operate an analytics service, traffic counter, advertising tracker, or account system.
Optional third-party features
- Support: Opening the Support Us dialog loads Ko-fi. If you choose to support the project, Ko-fi and the payment provider you select handle payment and related information under their own terms and privacy policies. Ko-fi privacy policy.
- Flyer QR code: The Share page loads a QR image from QRServer. A request to that service may reveal technical request information such as your IP address to that provider. The QR image encodes only the public OpenVoterGuide homepage URL; it never includes worksheet data. QRServer privacy information.
- Sharing: If you use the Facebook share link or your device's share sheet, the public page URL is sent to the service or app you select. Worksheet selections and notes are not part of that URL.
Choices and deletion
You can delete worksheet data using “Delete choices and notes” on the worksheet page, or clear this website's local storage in your browser. Removing a downloaded or printed backup is your responsibility. For questions or a correction to this policy, use the project's GitHub issue tracker; do not post private ballot selections or personal information in a public issue.
